Key points for using frequency converters

The braking unit supplier reminds you that in order to ensure the safe and stable operation of the frequency converter, it is very important to meet the allowable operating environment requirements of the frequency converter. In summary, do not let the operating environment of the frequency converter exceed the allowable temperature, and pay attention to the ventilation performance of the frequency converter cabinet. If the ambient temperature of the frequency converter is too high, it will reduce the electrical insulation and corrode the metal parts. Dehumidification should be considered to prevent condensation of the frequency converter. When using a frequency converter under safe operating conditions, the following points should be mastered:

1. The frequency converter must be reliably grounded to ensure safe operation and effectively suppress electromagnetic interference.

2. Frequency converters are not suitable for conducting voltage withstand tests and insulation resistance tests. When doing it, a 500V insulation resistance meter should be used for measurement, and the number of shake tests should be minimized as much as possible. Before insulation, all external main power and control circuits should be disconnected and the main circuit should be short circuited; The ground insulation should be ensured to be above 5 megohms.

3. When controlling the motor with a frequency converter, it is necessary to ensure that the motor has good ventilation conditions, and external ventilation and cooling measures should be taken if necessary.

4. When using a frequency converter with multiple motors, in addition to ensuring that the total current of the motors is less than the rated current of the frequency converter, it is also necessary to calculate the impact of the starting current of at least one motor to avoid overcurrent tripping of the frequency converter.

5. Capacitor compensation devices should not be connected to the output side of the frequency converter to prevent overcurrent protection tripping and even damage to the frequency converter.

6. The operation and stop of the motor driven by the frequency converter cannot be directly operated using low-voltage circuit breakers or AC contactors. It should be operated through the control terminals of the frequency converter, otherwise it may cause the frequency converter to lose control and cause accidents.

7. Avoid driving motors with variable frequency drives that do not match their capacity. A small motor capacity will affect the effective torque output, while a large capacity will increase the harmonic capacity.

8. When the driven motor has a brake, the frequency converter should operate in a free stop mode, and the action signal of the brake must be issued after the frequency converter sends a stop command.

9. When using a frequency converter to drive explosion-proof motors, due to the lack of explosion-proof performance, the frequency converter should be placed outside of hazardous areas.

10. When a frequency converter is used to drive a gear reducer, its range of use is limited by the lubrication method of the rotating parts of the gear. When lubricating with lubricating oil, there are no restrictions within the low-speed range; In the high-speed range above the rated speed, there may be a situation of insufficient lubricating oil supply, therefore, the maximum allowable speed should be considered.

11. Special attention should be paid to carefully reading the user manual before using the frequency converter. The input and output main power of the frequency converter cannot be reversed, and the "COM" and "GND" cannot be mixed. Special attention should be paid: RFI filters should not be used in neutral ungrounded power grids (IT systems, floating power grids), otherwise the power supply may short-circuit to ground through the filter capacitor, which may cause danger or damage to the frequency converter.

12. During trial operation, it should be run with no load first, then with light load, and finally with full load.

13. During the operation of the frequency converter, it is possible to visually inspect the operating conditions from the outside of the equipment for any abnormalities, and check the operating parameters of the frequency converter through the operation panel in order to promptly detect problems with the frequency converter and motor.

14. The frequency converter should be cleaned and dusted regularly to maintain its internal cleanliness and smooth air ducts.

15. Keep the environment around the frequency converter clean and dry, and do not place unrelated items near the frequency converter.

16. After installing and maintaining the frequency converter, carefully check for missing screws and wire heads to prevent small metal objects from falling into the frequency converter and causing internal circuit short circuit faults.
