The wide application of frequency converters in industrial automation control

Suppliers of frequency converter supporting equipment remind you that electric motors are the main source of power for modern industrial production equipment. For a long time, problems such as high energy consumption, high speed regulation, and poor industrial control stability of electric motors have had a significant impact on industrial production. The application of frequency converters has effectively solved these technical problems of electric motors. Frequency converters use microelectronics technology and frequency conversion technology to adjust the frequency and voltage of the output power supply based on the actual needs of the motor for power supply voltage during operation, relying on the disconnection of internal IGBTs to achieve speed regulation and energy saving.

1. Air conditioning load category

Office buildings, shopping malls, and some supermarkets and factories all have central air conditioning, which consumes a lot of electricity during the peak electricity consumption in summer. In hot weather, the electricity consumption of air conditioning in Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen accounts for over 40% of peak electricity. Therefore, using a frequency converter to drive the refrigeration pump, chilled water pump, and fan of the air conditioning system is a very good energy-saving technology. At present, there are many companies specializing in energy-saving air conditioning across the country, with the main technology being variable frequency speed regulation of frequency converters for energy-saving.

2. Crusher type load

There are many crushers and ball mills used in metallurgical mines and building materials, and the effect of using frequency conversion for such loads is significant.

3. Large kiln and calcination furnace loads

Previously, large industrial rotary kilns (converters) in metallurgy, building materials, caustic soda, etc. mostly used DC, rectifier motors, slip motors, cascade speed regulation, or intermediate frequency unit speed regulation. Due to the use of slip rings or low efficiency in these speed control methods, many units have adopted variable frequency control in recent years, which has achieved excellent results.

4. Compressor type load

Compressors also belong to the widely used load category. Low pressure compressors are widely used in various industrial sectors, while high-pressure large capacity compressors are widely used in steel (such as oxygen concentrators), mining, fertilizers, and ethylene. Adopting variable frequency speed regulation brings advantages such as low starting current, energy saving, and optimized equipment service life.

5. Rolling mill load

In the metallurgical industry, in the past, large rolling mills often used AC-DC-AC frequency converters. In recent years, AC-DC-AC frequency converters have been adopted, and AC conversion of rolling mills has become a trend, especially in light load rolling mills. For example, the multi stand aluminum rolling mill unit of Ningxia Ethnic Aluminum Products Factory uses a universal frequency converter to meet low-frequency load starting, synchronous operation between stands, constant tension control, and simple and reliable operation.

6. Hoist type load

The winch type load adopts variable frequency speed regulation, which is stable and reliable. The blast furnace hoisting equipment in the iron plant is the main equipment for transporting ironmaking raw materials. It requires smooth starting and braking, uniform acceleration and deceleration, and high reliability. The original method often used cascade, DC, or rotor series resistance speed regulation, which had low efficiency and poor reliability. Replacing the above speed regulation method with an AC frequency converter can achieve ideal results.

7. Converter type load

Converter type loads, using AC frequency conversion instead of DC units is simple, reliable, and operates stably.

8. Roller type load

Roller type loads are mostly used in the steel and metallurgical industry, and AC motor frequency conversion control is adopted to improve equipment reliability and stability.

9. Pump loads

Pump loads have a large quantity and wide range, including water pumps, oil pumps, chemical pumps, mud pumps, sand pumps, etc. There are low-pressure small and medium capacity pumps, as well as high-pressure large capacity pumps.

Many water companies use variable frequency speed regulation for their water pumps, chemical pumps in the chemical and fertilizer industries, reciprocating pumps, and mud pumps in industries such as non-ferrous metals, all of which produce very good results.

10. Crane and dump truck loads

Cranes, dump trucks, and other loads require high torque and stability, frequent forward and backward movements, and reliability. Variable frequency devices can control cranes and dump trucks to meet these requirements.

11. Wire drawing machine type load

The wire drawing machine for producing steel wire requires high-speed and continuous production. The steel wire strength is 200Kg/mm2, and the speed control system requires high precision, high stability, and synchronization.

12. Transport vehicle loads

The use of frequency conversion technology in coal mine raw coal loading vehicles or steel mill water transport vehicles is very effective. Fast start stop, strong overload capacity, flexible forward and reverse rotation, achieving smooth coal surface and correct weight (no excessive or insufficient loading), basically without manual operation, improving raw coal production efficiency and saving electricity.

13. Elevators, elevated tourist vehicles, and other types of loads

Due to the fact that elevators are manned vehicles, it is required that the drag system be highly reliable, and frequent acceleration, deceleration, and forward/reverse rotation are required. The improvement of elevator dynamic characteristics and reliability not only enhances the sense of safety, comfort, and efficiency of elevator ride, but also increases the overall safety, comfort, and efficiency of elevator passengers. In the past, elevator speed regulation was mostly DC, but in recent years, it has gradually shifted to AC motor variable frequency speed regulation, whether in Japan or Germany. Many elevator factories in our country are competing to equip elevators with variable frequency speed regulation. Shanghai Mitsubishi, Guangzhou Hitachi, Qingdao Fuji, Tianjin Otis, and others all use AC variable frequency speed regulation. Many previously produced elevators have also undergone frequency conversion renovations.

14. Feeder type load

In industries such as metallurgy, power, coal, and chemical engineering, there are numerous feeders. Whether it is a disc feeder or a vibrating feeder, the use of variable frequency speed regulation has a significant effect. The disc feeder of the sulfuric acid production line in Jihua Company's dye factory was originally designed for slip speed regulation, with low low-frequency torque, frequent malfunctions, and frequent stalling. After adopting frequency conversion speed regulation, due to being an asynchronous machine, it has high reliability, energy saving, and more importantly, it is closed-loop with the temperature transmitter to ensure the accuracy of material transportation, so as not to cause accidents due to excessive overheating of oxidant transportation, ensuring the orderliness of production.
